Two highly rated horses will reach Mauritius on Saturday 12th of March. The Gatekeeper and HonoKalani finished in the money in group 1 races in South Africa and they will to be followed at the Champ-de-mars racecourse.
Will he be the perfect substitute to White River? Owners of the trainer Rameshwar Gujadhur have invested a lot to secure the signing of The Gatekeeper (SAF Rating: 108) who is the best horse of the lot arriving from South Africa on Saturday. He is a two times winner (1400m and 1600m), and he secured a third place in the Cape Deby (2000m – G1) being beaten by Linebacker. His last win was on 1600m beating the G1 and G2 winner Golden Ducat at Kenilworth.
Honokalani is the best three years old bought by Mauritian owners so far. He won once over 1400m, and he ran second to Good Traveller on his last outing in the Premiers Champion Stakes (1400m – G1) in July 2021. He is expected to blossom in Mauritius with champion trainer Ricky Maingard.
Trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur is aiming high this season. He already has Shah Akbar and Royal Wolf getting ready for the kick-off and aiming at The Duchess of York Cup. His yard will be strengthened with the arrival of the sprinter Valyrian King (SAF Rating 104) and the stayer Holy Warrior (SAF Rating 93).
