The leaders of the Platform L’Espoir met the press this morning. The first to take the floor was Xavier Luc Duval who focused on the depression of the Mauritian rupee. “With the avalanche of rising prices that has already begun at the beginning of the year, we do not need a crystal ball to know the effect it will have on the population”, said the leader of the opposition. Let’s face it, the situation for the middle class and those at the bottom of the ladder in 2022 will be extremely difficult. For him, 2022 is placed under the sign of the impoverishment of a large part of the Mauritian population.
As for Paul Bérenger, he talked about Covid in 2022. The leader of the MMM has commented on a report published by the World Health Organization, from which the director-general of the organization seems to be in the balance. On one hand, he says he is optimistic that ‘Covid will be defeated in 2022’, and on the other hand, he says that Omicron could generate variants even more dangerous than the Delta variant. In this context, Paul Bérenger asks the population to take their responsibilities by being vaccinated and by respecting the barrier gestures. Omicron should not be taken lightly.
Nando Bodha commented on the field of education where he condemns the Minister of Education for the way she has handled the situation during the pandemic. “It’s a wasteful year for these students. Let’s face it, it’s a real nightmare with worried parents and stressed students. It is a traumatic climate for the end of this school year.”
The last to speak was the leader of the Reform Party, who has mostly commented on the functioning of the police force in Mauritius. Roshi Bhadain has presented a series of documents showing how the police force works and revealing the people who are at the head of the different elements of the police force. Another topic of discussion in the same context is the inaction of the police in several cases; the disappearance of evidence; false testimony among others.
