Covid 19: 21 Cases Of Omicron Got In Mauritius

The results of the sequencing exercise on 78 positive samples taken between 17 November and 19 December are out. The Ministry of Health announced in a press release on Tuesday 28 December that there are 21 cases of the Omicron variant, all detected in passengers, and 57 cases of the Delta variant, of which 49 were detected in the local population and 8 on passengers. The sequencing exercise was conducted at the Central Health Laboratory at Victoria Hospital in Candos.

42 positive cases

In the last 24 hours, 42 new cases have been recorded according to the Ministry of Health’s press release. A further 10 cases have required admissions for treatment and observation, of which 9 are in regional hospitals and 1 in New ENT Hospital.

Since 5 March 2021, the country has recorded 23,293 positive cases of which 21,840 have been cured. In terms of vaccination, the numbers were up on Tuesday with 947,599 people receiving the first dose, 910,556 the second and 180,226 the booster/third dose.

1 death due to Covid and Yudhisthir Seebocus’s death attributed to the Vaccine

The New ENT Hospital recorded 1 death directly attributed to Covid-19. The deceased was 71 years old, vaccinated and had comorbidities.

The regional hospitals discharged 17 patients. However, the SSRN Hospital has recorded 1 death on Tuesday morning. It is Yudhisthir Seebocus, 29 years old and councillor of Fond-du-Sac village. He was admitted to the hospital on 10 December following his dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine. He was not suffering from any particular pathology or comorbidity but his condition gradually deteriorated and he had to be admitted to the New ENT Hospital. He was recovering and his condition was considered stable. He was referred to the SSRN Hospital for further observation, but did not survive. He passed away on Tuesday morning. His medical certificate states that he was negative for Covid 19. His cremation took place at 3.30pm today. His family is calling for an investigation under the charge of ‘medical negligence’.
