On Tuesday, the various civil society groups as well as the opposition MPs, Xavier Luc Duval, Paul Bérenger, Rajesh Bhagwan, Reza Uteem, Shakeel Mohamed, Eshan Juman and other parliamentarians took to the streets in Port Louis to protest against the amendments to the IBA Act. They are all unanimously in favor of a ‘Division of Vote’ when voting on the amendments.
The demonstration started at about 3:45 pm on Tuesday and was aimed at challenging the IBA (Amendment) Bill. This initiative of a number of activists was, at some point, joined by members of the Opposition came out of the Parliament building to join the social activists in the street. Xavier-Luc Duval thus announced that in the Parliament, they did what they could. But there, a Division of Votes will be demanded. Xavier-Luc Duval also announced that the IBA Act will be reviewed by the platform Hope once in power, but also the Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Act. Paul Bérenger declared that there is unanimity in the country against the gag law and the dictatorship law.
