Fans expect and hope that in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will come to aid Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, but if that is true Sony and Marvel are keeping it a secret until the film’s release.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. The brand-new Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer is here and it’s got Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro…and some big Marvel Easter eggs and MCU secrets! With Spider-Man’s identity now revealed, Peter asks Doctor Strange for help. When a spell goes wrong, dangerous foes from other worlds start to appear, forcing Peter to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.
The film is directed by Jon Watts, written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei, J. B. Smoove, Benedict Wong, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, Thomas Haden Church, and Rhys Ifans. In the film, Parker asks Dr. Stephen Strange (Cumberbatch) to help make his identity as Spider-Man a secret again with magic, which leads to the multiverse breaking open and allowing supervillains from alternate realities to enter Parker’s universe.
Doctor Octopus
Once again, Alfred Molina’s creepily de-aged Otto Octavius is a big draw in this trailer. And we learn a little bit more about that highway fight from the first trailer: he clearly doesn’t realize he’s not in the Raimiverse anymore, and instead thinks he’s fighting Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker. Not that it matters, as Spidey clearly manages to deliver unto him a Spider-whupping and take him prisoner.
Premise
After Peter Parker’s identity as Spider-Man was exposed by Mysterio at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), his life and reputation are turned upside down. Parker asks Dr. Stephen Strange to help restore his secret identity with magic, but this breaks open the multiverse, allowing supervillains from alternate realities who previously fought versions of Spider-Man to arrive.
Release Date
Spider-Man: No Way Home is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on December 15, 2021 and in the United States on December 17. It was previously set for release on July 16, 2021, but was pushed back to November 5, 2021, before it was further shifted to the December 2021 date, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be part of Phase Four of the MCU. In August 2021, Sony and CJ 4DPlex announced a deal to release 15 of Sony’s films over three years in the ScreenX format, including No Way Home. In November 2021, the film was confirmed to be getting a theatrical release in China, making it the first Phase Four film to do so after Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Eternals were not released in the country.
