The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Recreation is organizing the 4th edition of the Street Dance Battle (SDB). Dancers who want to be part of the adventure have until October 5 to submit a two-minute video. A total of 80 participants will be selected in five categories. The final is scheduled for mid-November.
Due to Covid-19, this year there will be no island-wide selection. To participate in the SDB, you just have to send a video as Kenji Kennedy, the coordinator, explains: “Those interested should send us their video either by email: [email protected] or by Whatsapp: 57 73 32 89. This competition is open to 5 categories: 1. Afro Dance. 2. Hip Hop. 3. Break Dance kids (from 4 years old) 4. Break Dance (+ 16 years old). In these 4 categories the participants will compete in one-on-one battles. The 5th category will be dedicated to choreographies in any dance style. In this category, participants can gather in groups of 2 to 5 people.
Once the videos are viewed, the jury, composed of experienced dancers, will select 16 candidates in each category. This will bring the number of participants to 80.
If the prizes have not yet been communicated, everything suggests that the winners will leave with checks and other trophies.
Note that with the operation of the Mauritius Dancesport Federation since March 2021, this competition also aims to list the dancers. Thus by registering, all candidates will subsequently be contacted to participate in workshops and other activities.
