The country has received 38,400 additional doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX program. These vaccines will be administered on a priority basis to those who need to travel abroad for studies or other reasons. This was stated by the Minister of Health and Welfare, Dr. Kailesh Jagutpal on Friday, August 6 at the press conference of the National Communication Committee on Covid-19. Several countries, mainly in Europe, require foreigners traveling there to be vaccinated at AstraZeneca.
The vaccines will be administered on Saturday, August 07 and Monday, August 09, 2021 in the five centers of the Ministry. He also stressed that from Tuesday, August 10, the population can be vaccinated with the vaccine Sputnik V in the five vaccination centers. And from Thursday, August 12, only those who need to receive their second dose of vaccine will be allowed in the vaccination centers and targeted groups of the population will be inoculated with the first dose of vaccine via mobile clinics.
The goal is for Mauritius to reach the minimum 60% of its population required for herd immunity very soon.
The Minister of Health also said that to date, 709,876 people have received their first dose of vaccine against Covid-19, representing 56.1% of the population including minors and 74.7% of the adult population. As for those who have received their second dose of vaccine, they are 709,876, which is equivalent to 60.23% of the adult population.
