This Spanish-flagged vessel is banned from leaving Mauritian waters. This interdiction was decided after 3,000 litres of diesel were found on the ship by the local authorities. Officers from the Ministry of Fisheries gave the alert. This is the second foreign boat intercepted with an unusual stock of fuel in less than a week. Last week, the Taiwanese fishing vessel, Hung Jie Wei 21 was arrested off Black River. The ship’s four fish holds were filled with diesel. This is a worrying situation for both the maritime authorities and the Police. A police inquiry has been launched.
Sinking of the Yu Feng off St Brandon
The pumping exercise of Yu Feng can only begin during the first week of January 2023. Experts from Bridge Maritime Ltd, who have already been on the island for more than a week, will still have to wait. The Salvage Team will have to wait for the equipment required for the operation to remove the Taiwanese boat from the reefs to arrive from Mombasa, Kenya. Once the Yu Feng No 67 has been removed from the reefs, the Bridge Maritime Ltd recommends that the wreckage be abandoned in place.
