Boxes of cheese, a box of corned beef and a pasta sauce. These are items that a 32-year-old woman, living in Montagne-Longue hid in her bag and crossed the cash register of a supermarket without having paid the bill. It was in the late afternoon of Thursday, December 2. Spotted by the supervisor of this supermarket, she was searched by a security guard in the presence of the police. This exercise allowed to seize these articles worth Rs 2233 in her possession. This woman was brought before the court of Pamplemousses this Friday morning of December 3 before being released on bail.
It is 6:20 pm, in this late afternoon of Thursday, December 2. The supervisor of Simla Supermarket in Baie du Tombeau who is on duty notices a customer hiding several items in a blue bag. The 35 year old employee followed the woman’s movements very closely. The customer was walking through the checkout line without paying the bill. She was stopped by the supervisor and a security guard. She was informed that she was suspected of theft. The Baie du Tombeau police station, which was alerted to this case, had to dispatch a team of police officers to the supermarket. The customer was subjected to a search and twenty-six boxes of cheese, a box of corned beef and a pasta sauce were found in her possession.
The thirty-year-old was then taken to the Baie du Tombeau police station to give her statement, in which she apologized. She was charged with shoplifting. However, she was released on parole. This Friday, December 3, she returned to the police station before being taken to the Pamplemousses court to face a provisional charge. She was released on bail.
