Must Read

The 4th edition of the Zenes Montre to Talan (ZMT) competition was held on Sunday, October 17 in Vacoas in presence of the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr. Stephan Toussaint. During this final, Sarah Thevenau won the 1st prize in the individual category. The group Nula Groove was the winner among the competing groups.

At 14 years old, Sarah Thevenau is a young ventriloquist. A student at the École du Nord, this Cap Malheureux resident entered the contest to show what Joy – her puppet – has in her belly: “I discovered ventriloquism following a puppet project at school. When I got home, I made my family laugh. When the contest was announced, I signed up to show my talent to the public.

However, the teenager did not expect to win the first prize at all: “It was a pleasant surprise and in the end I am very happy. It was a pleasant surprise and I’m very happy. I now plan to visit retirement homes and hospitals to make seniors and sick children laugh in order to cheer them up.”

Nula Groove has been around for five years. Heteroclite, the musical formation composed of David Couyava, Bleck Lindor, Rayan Marion and Hary Bouf, touches a bit of everything when it comes to music. Their strength? Acoustics. Their particularity? Instruments resulting from the recovery: “We like to bring new sonorities in our music. So we often turn to recycled objects like the sound of a PVC pipe that splits the air.  This instrument impressed the audience a lot during the final,” explains Hary Bouf – one of the singers.

Taking advantage of this small notoriety, the group has projects full of head: “We won the final thanks to Tanki to exists one of our compositions. We intend to release it as a single while waiting for an album which is in gestation,” underlines Hary.

As a reminder, Sarah Thevenau and the group Nula Groove have each pocketed a check of Rs 50 000 for their first place.

Minister Stephan Toussaint announced the coming up of the fourth edition of the competition, that is ‘Zenes Montre To Talan’ 2022, and emphasised that the Ministry has planned other major projects for this year.

He urged all youngsters to stay connected to the Facebook page of the Ministry so as to remain updated as regards the activities being organised.
