The whole island of Rodrigues is in turmoil. A 20-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her concubine in the village of Pistache. Sharone Philipe, 20, was lying on her back in a pool of blood when police officers from La Ferme police station, Rodrigues, went to her home. She had multiple wounds on her body. Her partner Jean Stellio Leracce, 29, was arrested. Sharon Philipe’s body was subsequently taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital morgue in Crève-Cœur for autopsy. A forensic pathologist will be dispatched to the island for this purpose.
The tragedy occurred at around 10 am. There had been a violent argument between Stellio Leracce and his concubine Sharon Philipe. She had been living with the man for three years in this concrete room covered in sheet metal. At one point, Stellio Leracce grabbed a kitchen knife and struck the young woman several times in the body. Sharone Philipe, who was originally from Montagne Cabri, collapsed to the floor, bleeding profusely.
Meanwhile, the La Ferme police station, alerted by the victim’s neighbors, dispatched a team led by Inspector Grandcourt. These officers, who found that the victim was already dead, secured the area as a crime scene before calling in elements of the Scene Of Crime Office (Soco). The news spread like wildfire, attracting a crowd of curious onlookers to Pistache. The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Port Mathurin, led by Inspector Manav Jeean a who took over the investigation, arrested the alleged murderer.
After the Soco men had examined this single room in the house to take samples and fingerprints, authorization was given for the young woman’s body to be transported to the Crève-Cœur hospital morgue.
This Friday morning, December 29, an autopsy will be performed on Sharone Philipe’s body. Stellio Leracce is due to be brought before the Port Mathurin court this Thursday morning, December 28. He has been provisionally charged with murder. S Leracce was married and had children.
Questioned at the scene of the crime by CID officers, he confessed to stabbing the young woman. However, he told investigators that he would give his statement in the presence of a law officer.
