Young Resident Of Cité La Cure Arrested For Drug Trafficking

Jean Gregory Jordan Clair, alias Polok, 25 years old, was arrested late Monday afternoon, January 9, on a provisional charge of drug trafficking. This after a team of police officers from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of Abercrombie, St. Croix raided his home in Cité La Cure.  These policemen seized 58.10 grams of cannabis and the sum of Rs 328,900, which is suspected to come from the sale of this drug.

After hours of surveillance, this ADSU team, led by Inspector Jeean, searched the house of Jordan Clair at Narbada Street, Cité La Cure. These officers had information that the young man was involved in drug trafficking.  It was in a brown bag in his room that the 58.10 grams of cannabis were found and some money was seized. This drug was distributed in 3 transparent plastics, namely one containing 22 resealable plastics with cannabis, another with 22 cellophane packages with cannabis and a third bag with a significant amount of drugs. A certain amount of money in different denominations was found in this bag and another part in his cupboard. The total amount seized was Rs 328,000.

The suspect was taken to the ADSU office in Abercrombie, St. Croix for questioning. It is in the presence of his lawyer, Mr. Ashik Toorabally, that he gave his statement. He admitted that the drugs and the money seized belonged to him. However, he refused to explain where it came from. 

After an initial night in a police cell, Jordan Clair was brought before the Port-Louis court on Tuesday, January 10. He is facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking.
