A group of young Frenchmen on holiday in Mauritius went hiking in Sept Cascades, Henrietta on Wednesday 17 August. One of them, aged 22, jumped into a lake for a swim. But when he pulled his head out of the water, his friends saw him bleeding profusely. He was seriously injured and rushed to the Victoria Hospital, Candos. After receiving treatment, he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

One of his 21-year-old friends reported the incident to the Vacoas police station at around 11pm on the evening of Wednesday 17 August. The young man explained that they were all on holiday in Mauritius and were staying at Pointe aux Canonniers. They went to Sept Cascades with two guides. One of the guides, he said, showed them a lake and assured them that they could jump into the water to swim.

His 22-year-old friend jumped into the water at around 2:30 p.m., but when he surfaced, they saw that he was bleeding profusely from the head. Without delay, he was taken to hospital. After receiving treatment, he was admitted to the intensive care unit. This was after undergoing surgery.
