Yogita Baboo made a statement to the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) against Air Mauritius on Friday afternoon, 28 June. She was accompanied by her lawyer, Urmila Boolell.
The president of the Air Mauritius Cabin Crew Association (AMCCA) claims that the national airline has breached sections 30 and 31 of the Employment Relations Act because, when she spoke on a radio programme, she was acting as a union representative and not as an employee.
According to Yogita Babboo, MK did not comply with the law.
At the beginning of July, Air Mauritius management informed Yogita Babboo of her dismissal with immediate effect. The national airline accused the AMCCA president of making statements on a radio programme on 25 June that were damaging to Air Mauritius.
Yogita Babboo had claimed to have expressed the concerns of the staff members she represents. Air Mauritius management had called her before a disciplinary committee last week, a procedure that the trade unionist contested.
