The Ministry will refer the case to the Employment Relations Tribunal as soon as possible. The announcement was made by Mariahven Caramben, adviser at the Ministry of Labour, following Labour Minister Soodesh Callichurn’s meeting with Yogita Babboo’s union negotiator Radakrishna Sadien at Victoria House in Port-Louis. They discussed the dismissal of the president of the Air Mauritius Cabin Crew Association (AMCCA) by Air Mauritius on 10 July.
Mariahven Caramben asserted that the Minister of Labour is impartial, and that Yogita Babboo would be giving a statement to the Ministry of Labour on Wednesday about his dismissal.
Radakrishna Sadien, for his part, has stated that the Ministry does not appear to be insensitive to this case. The trade unionist has announced that a press conference will be held this afternoon at 3 pm to give further details. The platform in support of Yogida Babboo will meet at 1.30 pm.
Yogita Babboo was dismissed with immediate effect on Monday 10 July. She had refused to submit to a disciplinary committee set up by the management of the national airline in response to her recent statements on a private radio station.
On Saturday 29 July, Labour Minister Soodesh Callichurn announced the opening of an enquiry into the dismissal of Yogita Babboo. Speaking at a ceremony in Calebasses, he said that his department had no intention of standing idly by in this case.
