At the Denise Nakeed Municipal Centre in Résidence La Cure, the Youth Empowerment Programme Against Drugs (YEPAD), which aims to involve community members in the fight against the drug epidemic, was introduced on Monday.
The occasion was attended by representatives from parliament, including Mrs. Subhasnee Luchmun Roy and Mrs. Marie Joanne Sabrina Tour, as well as Mr. Mahfooz Moussa Cadersaib, the Lord Mayor of Port Louis.
The one-week program for leadership development and drug prevention education is being attended by about 28 people in the area. It should be reminded that the YEPAD is created to educate young people about the risks associated with drugs while also developing their capacity to lead drug prevention initiatives in their local communities.
The program, which is a project of the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the National Drug Secretariat of the Prime Minister’s Office, takes a community-based prevention strategy by empowering and involving young people in the struggle against drug misuse and illegal drug trafficking.
