Opposition MPs met yesterday afternoon in preparation for this Tuesday parliamentary session. They held a press conference to comment on several issues, including the freezing of Arvin Boolell’s suspension and the case of alleged bribery, where the names of Minister Maneesh Gobin and PPS Rajanah Dahliah are mentioned. Xavier-Luc Duval said he welcomed the return of the PTr leader tomorrow in Parliament. “It will be the highlight of tomorrow,” he said.
The Opposition Leader thanked the judiciary who, he said, has shown enough independence to intervene in all facets of life. He also commended Arvin Boolell for his swift reaction. “What would have happened if Arvin Boolell had not taken the path? The Speaker would have succeeded in muzzling the opposition… not only in the Chamber but also outside,” he said.
For Xavier-Luc Duval, Sooroojdev Phokeer has attacked freedom of opinion. “He acted against the law. He must be punished. We cannot continue as if everything is normal. On behalf of the opposition, we demand the resignation of Mr Phokeer,” he insisted.
