The Prime Minister had a working meeting with the American Assistant Secretary of State on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.
Mr. Pravind Jugnauth and Ms. Wendy Sherman reviewed the relationship between Mauritius and the United States. In particular, they discussed concerted actions with regard to the protection of our maritime space. Discussions also focused on the possibilities of further cooperation in trade and investment.
The Prime Minister also participated in two roundtable discussions at the U.S.-Africa Business Forum. The roundtables focused on infrastructure and energy transition and on the U.S.-Africa trade and investment relationship.
Mr. Pravind Jugnauth also met with the President of Kenya, William Ruto. Discussions focused on investment opportunities between the two countries and the agenda of the next Mauritius-Kenya Joint Commission scheduled to take place in Mauritius next year.
The Head of Government also had a working session with Sarah Bianchi, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce. Among the topics discussed were the trade relationship between Mauritius and the United States and the future of AGOA.
The Prime Minister also attended the U.S. President’s speech at the U.S.-Africa 2022 Leaders’ Summit. Joe Biden spoke about the renewed commitment of the United States to invest more in Africa.
