We Feel Like We Are In Danger, Say The Fakhoo Children

Must Read

Nitisha and Kashish Fakhoo, the two children of Manan Fakhoo, surrounded by several family members, held a press briefing this afternoon. They said they feared for their safety. This is after one of the suspects was granted bail this week. They said they could not understand how one of the suspects could be granted bail when “the investigation is not yet over” and “the murder weapon has still not been recovered by the police”.

Kashish Fakhoo recalled that he had already received threats from a relative of one of the suspects. He added that several suspects in that case, including the one who obtained bail, do not live too far from them. “What will happen if something happens to me?” he wondered. For Nitisha Fakhoo, having these suspects as neighbours increases this sense of insecurity.

She also insisted that there was nothing “communal” about the fight she and her brother are waging. “This is not a fight for communalism but against terrorism and extremism,” she said. She also said that a private investigator, NS Defence Private, had submitted a report to the new acting police commissioner.

Manan Fakoo was shot and killed near his home in Beau-Bassin on January 20. Shots were fired by two individuals on motorcycles at the fifty-year-old who was in his car.
