From January 19, Mauritius embarks on a crucial stage in its democratic process: the re-registration of voters. The aim of this initiative is to ensure that the electoral roll is accurate and up to date, thereby ensuring fair and equitable representation in the forthcoming elections.
Voter registration, scheduled from January 19 to February 10, this year incorporates the new electoral district delimitations, following the adoption of the recommendations of the Electoral Boundaries Commission report in December.
Supervised by the Office of the Electoral Commissioner, this exercise, called House to House Inquiry 2024, will cover Mauritius, Agalega and Rodrigues. Officers from the office will be going door-to-door outside working hours on weekdays and throughout the weekends.
The last electoral roll, dated August 16, 2023, recorded 991,327 registrations with the Electoral Commission. This year, changes to the electoral districts will be the highlight of the exercise.
