Laval Gino Dasse was released on parole on Friday. He had to provide bail of Rs 250,000 and sign a debt recognizance of Rs 1.5 million. Three other conditions are attached to his release. Gino Dasse must report to the nearest police station on a daily basis, he must be reachable by telephone and he must also provide a fixed address. He was represented by Neven Mooneesawmy in this case. Gino Dasse was arrested by the Special Striking Team on 2 July on a provisional charge of Aiding and abetting to commit an offence. The police accused him of providing false information during his initial interrogation on 4 May. He had also taken part in a re-enactment exercise.
For his part, Vimen Sabapati has completed the examination of his mobile phone at the Information and Technology Unit in connection with the audio tape affair. This exercise began last Friday and was completed early this week. The police intend to listen to the various recordings and compare them with those on the USB key that journalist Nawaz Noorbux had given to the CCID. The investigators want to ensure that these recordings have not been manipulated and that the two statements are similar.
