Rama Valayden was provisionally charged with perverting the course of justice on Friday. However, he was released on a non-monetary bond, which is only an IOU. The lawyer was arrested on Friday after a search of his home and interrogation.
Attorney Rama Valayden was arrested this Friday morning, May 12, at his home in Sorèze, Pailles. His arrest was made by the men of Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ashik Jagai of the Special Striking Team (SST) of the Police Headquarters. Rama Valayden is provisionally charged with perverting the course of justice. This is for making remarks on a private radio station on Friday, May 5.
It was around 7 o’clock this Friday morning, May 12, that the men of the SST arrived at his home to make his arrest. Rama Valayden was taken to the SST office in the Central Barracks for questioning under warning.
Rama Valayden had made remarks against the police in relation to drug trafficking in the country. Nando Bodha also participated in this program. It was shortly after 1:00 pm that Rama Valayden was taken to the court of Port-Louis for his appearance. He retained the services of Me Jacques Panglose, José Moirt and Pravesh Nuckcheddy.
