A most spectacular accident occurred on the evening of Tuesday 12 October at around 8.45pm on the metro track under construction near the CEB at the corner of St Paul and Sivananda roads in Vacoas. A Toyota car ended up in a ditch at this location. The driver of this vehicle, a 26-year-old dirty assistant at Mauritius Telecom, who lives in Bananes, was not injured.
However, a 26-year-old Indian worker at the site was injured and was taken to Victoria Hospital for treatment. Before this accident occurred the car was coming from St. Paul’s Road and heading towards La Caverne. The driver was given a breathalyzer test which was negative.
If the police consider that it is an error, or even a fault of this driver that would be at the origin of this accident. On the other hand, some motorists are of the opinion that a lack of lighting could be the cause of this accident. At such a strategic location there should have been a police presence or workers on the site to control the traffic.
