Boris Johnson – who is facing the most serious leadership crisis of his premiership so far – will come under further pressure later on Wednesday as he faces MPs at Prime Minister’s Questions.
He is also due to give evidence to the Liaison Committee – a group of MPs who scrutinise the government’s policy and decisions.
It is confirmed six further ministers resign including Kemi Badenoch, Lee Rowley and Mims Davies, are the latest to resign for Boris Johnson’s government. Earlier Sajid Javid, who quit as health secretary yesterday, told MPs that “treading the tightrope between loyalty and integrity” had become impossible. Liam Fox, the former defence secretary who was previously loyal to Boris Johnson says: “The events of recent days…have convinced me that unfortunately, you cannot continue to lead the Conservative Party and more importantly our country.” “We have lost too many good people from the government who could not reconcile their loyalty to you with their conscience. I share their feelings.” “Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that I am today withdrawing my support for you as I no longer have confidence in you as our leader. I urge you to do the right thing and resign.”
