The British High Commission Mauritius and the Ministry of Financial Services and Good Governance are delighted to welcome experts from Her Majesty’s Treasury in the United Kingdom to Mauritius to provide technical advice and strengthen bilateral cooperation to fight terrorist finance.
During their visit the experts will meet officials from the Ministry, law enforcement and regulators to share experience to stop dirty money coming to Mauritius, including terrorism financing. This important partnership is an example of the UK’s commitment to support Mauritius to become a regional leader in combatting illicit financial flows.
‘This week, experts from the UK will visit Mauritius to work with law enforcement agencies and regulators to share their expertise in fighting terrorism finance. By working together, we can ensure that terrorists don’t use our countries to make, move or hide their ill-gotten gains. This is the first in a series of planned visits by officials from Her Majesty’s Treasury and builds upon the excellent visits in 2021 by colleagues from the UK Home Office and the International Anti-Corruption Coordination Centre. As global financial centres, the UK and Mauritius have a duty to protect our citizens and their money.’ said the British High Commissioner to Mauritius, H.E. Charlotte Pierre.
‘AML/CFT continues to remain high on the agenda of this Government even after the FATF, UK, and EU delisting. We are committed to keep on investing in our people and strengthen the operational aspects of all our agencies. Mauritius welcomes this partnership with the UK which is aimed at enhancing the skills of our officers in the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing. During the course of this week, the experienced officers from the UK will share best practices with the Mauritian authorities and discuss latest techniques and measures to effectively implement the global standards. This training is part of a series of capacity building programme that will be conducted with the officers of Her Majesty’s Treasury. This long- term collaboration with the UK is in line with our strategy to sustain our efforts for an effective implementation of the AML/CFT measures,’ said the minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Honourable Mahen Kumar Seeruttun.
Given the status of Mauritius and the United Kingdoms as an international financial centre, this type of collaboration is key for effectively fighting international illicit financial flows.
