Two young people, who left for a fishing party in the North of the country since Sunday, February 5, would have found themselves in difficulty at sea. The boat on which these two inhabitants of Grand-Baie took place took water and drifted in the Malagasy waters. The National Coast Guard (NCG) was alerted to this case.
It was shortly after midnight this Saturday, February 11, that a resident of Camp Carol, Grand Bay went to the police station of her locality to report a case of difficulty at sea. In her complaint, this forty-year-old woman, who works as a maid, explained that she received a phone call from her son, aged 20, around 9:45 pm on the evening of Friday, February 10. The young man had been on a fishing trip since Sunday, February 5, with a friend. The latter, aged 24, also lives in the coastal village of Grand-Baie.
According to his son, the boat he was in started to take on water and was drifting. He told his mother that he is somewhere near the Malagasy coast. This woman subsequently went to the NCG station in Grand Bay to report this case of difficulty at sea. The NCG has already informed the Malagasy and Seychelles authorities of this case.
If this young man called his mother from a boat on the high seas, it is without a doubt, that he did it with a satellite phone. The NCG hopes to locate this boat by its Automatic Identification Systems (AIS).
The Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of the Northern Division is closely following the investigation in this case.
