The Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) team of the Eastern Division has arrested two individuals. These individuals were committing violent robberies in several areas of the country. The team arrested Muhammad Tariq Rajack Goonoo, 18 years old and resident of L’Avenir, Saint-Pierre and Jean Stevens Tuyau, 24 years old and resident of cité EDC, Circonstance, Saint-Pierre on the evening of Monday March 21. During the day of Tuesday, March 22, they were brought before the court of Moka.
It is a fieldwork, meticulously conducted by the men of Inspector Seebnauth of the DCIU of Flacq, which led to the arrests at around 7 pm on Monday evening, March 21, of these two suspects, who thought they were acting with impunity.
On the same day, around 12:30 pm, at Nelson Mandela Street, Terre-Rouge, Stevens Tuyau got off a motorcycle driven by Tariq Goonoo with unprecedented violence and violently attacked a 24 year old secretary. At the threat of a long-bladed knife, after throwing the woman onto the asphalt, he took her wallet, which contained a sum of Rs 500 in different denominations, her national identity card and her bank card.
The screams of this woman, who lives in L’Esperance, Pitot, attracted the attention of the inhabitants of this neighborhood who came out afterwards. During the assault of this secretary, who works in a printing shop, a car crossed at this place and the thug ran away in front of his vehicle.
These two suspects, whose reports the DCIU was working on, committed two more crimes on Saturday, March 19. At 7:00 a.m., a 34-year-old computer technician was walking along Pamplemousses Road, St. Croix while answering a call on his cell phone. When he reached the Latanier Bridge, a motorcycle slowed down and the passenger in the back of the motorcycle snatched his cell phone from his right hand. His phone, of the brand Realme, is worth Rs 16 000.
A young woman of 21 years old was victim of these two thugs in the late afternoon of Saturday, March 19 while she was behind the counter of her supermarket in Petit-Verger, Saint-Pierre. These two men arrived and under the threat of a sword, one of them declared to her, “si to koze, mo pou touy twa”. Tetanized by this threat, the young woman begged for her life. The man then reached into the drawer with his left hand and took a handful of banknotes. They left in the direction of Moka on a motorcycle. The stolen money is estimated at Rs 1500.
The men of the DCUI went to a wooded area in the early evening of Monday 21 March near the Badal bridge, Saint-Pierre. A Suzuki 125 cc motorcycle and two helmets were hidden there. These exhibits were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Moka.
At 7:00 p.m., based on certain information, these CID men went to a vacant lot in the vicinity of Bagatelle Mall. The two suspects, who were there, were arrested. They were handed over to the CID of Moka. Stevens Tuyau and Tariq Goonoo confessed to the three cases of robbery with violence. At the end of their interrogation by the CID investigators, they will be handed over to the investigators of the other divisions for questioning.
The suspect Stevens Tuyau is known to the police. He was fined Rs 10,000 on October 22, 2021 for a drug trafficking offence after being found in possession of a quantity of cannabis. Stevens Tuyau is being held in a cell at the Quartier-Militaire police station while his accomplice, Tariq Goonoo has been placed in the Moka detention center.
