The project has multiple objectives. It is aiming at boosting local tourism, promoting recreational and commercial activities, and generating additional income for pleasure boat operators. The Tourism Authority plans to build two jetties, one at Rivière-Noire and the other at Trou-d’Eau-Douce. The applications for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) license have already been submitted. The new jetty at Trou-D’Eau-Douce, in a site called Le Maho, passengers embarking for Île-aux-Cerfs will no longer have to walk in the water.
Passengers travelling to Île-aux-Cerfs won’t have to walk in the water because to this initiative. Additionally, the dock should increase passenger comfort and boost business for the operators.
