Two enforcement officers from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare raided two houses on Macadam Street, Baie du Tombeau, on Tuesday, March 21. This on the basis of certain information, which turned out to be true. The owners were operating illegal nurseries. In the first house, there were four children and in the second, seven children. These two officers ordered that these illegal nurseries be closed. The owners stated that they were unaware that a permit was required to operate a crèche.
It was on the morning of Tuesday, March 21, that these two officers of this ministry arrived at Macadam Street, Baie du Tombeau. They had information that two houses had been transformed into crèches in this locality and were operating illegally. A first raid allowed these officers to find four children. This after the owner was informed of the reason for their visit and declared their identities. This woman had to confide to these two officers that two of these four children are 8 months and 4 years old, and they are her grandchildren while the other two are 7 months and 2 years old.
In the second house, seven children aged between 7 months and 4 years were found. As in the house searched earlier, the owner was asked to produce her operating license, to which she had to state, “mo pa ti konne si enn offens sa”. As in the first house, she was informed that she must cease all crib operations. She was informed of the procedures to be followed before opening a crib.
One of these two officers went to the Baie du Tombeau police station to make a statement regarding “operating a child day care center”. A police investigation was opened.
