Two accidents, involving two drivers under the influence of alcohol, were recorded at Pont Lardier, Rivière-Sèche and Cité Argy, Flacq respectively this Monday, January 3. In the first case, the damage is material where a wall collapsed, while the accident in Cité Argy, Flacq resulted in an injury after a pylon of Mauritius Telecom (MT) fell after being hit by the vehicle. The resident of Cité Argy was placed in a drunk tank.
It was shortly after 8 pm this Monday, January 3 that an accident occurred on the Royal Road in Cité Argy, Flacq just before the camera of Safe City. A Citroen vehicle, driven by a 45 year old resident of this locality, collided head-on with a MT pylon on the left side of this road. The impact was so violent that the pylon was torn off and hit a 68 year old greengrocer, who was standing in his yard.
The Citroën was to subsequently hit a motorcycle, which was parked on this road. Injured, the sixty-year-old was taken to the Dr Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq for treatment. He was then able to return home. The driver of the vehicle was given a breathalyzer test, which came back positive. He had 159 micrograms of alcohol in his breath.
Earlier in the afternoon of Monday, January 3, a 4WD crashed into the wall of a resident of Route Royale, Pont Lardier, Rivière-Sèche. The vehicle came from Rivière-Sèche and was driving in the direction of Olivia. The driver lost control of his vehicle and ended up against a wall, which collapsed on impact. The driver was taken to the Flacq Hospital for treatment. He was given a breathalyzer test which was positive. He had 60 micrograms of alcohol in his breath.
