Two Deaths On Our Roads On February 1st

On the first day of February 1st, the roads in Gentilly, Moka recorded two new fatalities this Thursday afternoon. A motorcyclist and a lady passenger were killed in a collision with a heavy goods vehicle. Both men were killed instantly. This brings to fifteen the number of deaths on our roads so far this year. The bodies of the two victims were taken to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for autopsy by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the police forensic department.

Just before 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, this terrible accident occurred on the Route Royale in Gentilly, Moka, near the traffic lights. A motorcycle was hit head-on by a truck. The impact was so violent that the motorcycle was thrown and dragged for several meters. Police officers from the Moka police station were immediately alerted and rushed to the scene of the accident. Ambulance personnel from the Service d’Aide Médicale d’Urgence were also called to the scene. Unfortunately, a doctor on board was only able to certify the death of the motorcyclist and his rump passenger.

After the police had finished marking the accident site in the presence of the HGV driver, the two bodies were transported to the Candos hospital morgue. Meanwhile, the driver was taken to the Moka police station, where he underwent a breathalyzer test. The test was negative. He was questioned before being taken into custody on a charge of manslaughter.

The autopsy concluded that both the motorcyclist and the female passenger died from crushed heads.

An investigation has been launched to shed light on the exact circumstances of this accident.
