A ‘controlled delivery’ set up by elements of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) this Tuesday morning of January 4 in the parking areas of Espace Maison in Forbach led to the apprehension of the cousins, Goomauny, Stéphano Elvis Loïc Luigi Julien, 19 years old and Norwin Wesley Jordy Yannick, 28 years old, both residents of La Caverne N0 1, Vacoas. They had come to take delivery of a package that arrived by a courier company since Saturday, December 18, 2021, which contained two cartoon books. Inside these books, 432 grams of hashish were hidden, with a market value of Rs 1,296,000.
This case began on the morning of Saturday, December 18, 2021 when a parcel sent from Spain with a fictitious name and phone number landed at Plaisance airport in an express courier company from France by flight MK 0115. The parcel was thoroughly examined by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority in the presence of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of the airport. A dark brown powder was detected between the pages of these two books. The sniffer dog, Oasis, was called and reacted positively to the presence of the drug. A field test performed confirmed that this powder is hashish. There were 432 grams, with an estimated street value of 1,296,000.
The same day, the police officers of the ADSU launched a controlled delivery operation. Thus, on Tuesday January 4th, a fictitious parcel was taken to the Espace Maison area in Forbach where the appointment was given for the delivery. Stéphane Goomauny came there in a white Peugeot car driven by his cousin Norwin Goomauny.
The two suspects, who were arrested, were taken to the ADSU headquarters at the Central Barracks for questioning. This Wednesday, January 5th, the two cousins will be presented before the Court of Pamplemousses. They are facing a provisional charge of drug procuration.
At the ADSU HQ, it is difficult to digest that the MRA issued a press release on this seizure during the morning of Tuesday, January 4, while the controlled delivery operation was still in progress in Forbach. This step of the MRA, say some officers of the ADSU, comes to complicate even more the conflicting relations between these two departments at this beginning of the year.
The police intend to object to the release on bail of these two suspects. Thus, Stéphane Goomauny will probably celebrate his 20th birthday behind bars on July 3, 2022, and Norwin Goomauny, his 29th birthday on January 16, 2022.
