In the Supreme Court, the DPP’s representative announces that Vivek Pursun’s Private Prosecution will be stopped in the Curepipe court. Maneesh Gobin and Rajanah Dahlia therefore withdraw their motions to challenge the case.
The case was called before Acting Chief Justice Nirmala Devat this morning. During the hearing, the DPP’s representative, Ms Adeelah Hamuth, Acting Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, indicated that the DPP’s office would be filing a discontinuance of proceedings before the Curepipe court. He believes that the evidence provided by Vivek Pursun’s lawyers is insufficient.
Adeelah Hamuth also added that she intends to apply to the Anti-Corruption Commission for a report on those who have been questioned to date in connection with this case. The DPP’s office will then take a decision before the Curepipe court once it has received this information.
After leaving the Supreme Court, Sanjeev Teeluckdharry, one of Vivek Pursun’s lawyers, said that the fight would take on a new dimension next Monday in the Curepipe court.
