The Prime Minister, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, effected a site visit at the Kaylasson Temple in Port-Louis, this morning, to take stock of the ongoing preparation being undertaken to ensure that the Thaipoosam Cavadee is held in the best conditions on 04 February 2023.
Various eminent personalities including the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Local Government and Disaster Risk Management, Dr Mohammad Anwar Husnoo, the Minister of Energy and Public Utilities, Mr. Pierre Lesjongard and the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr. Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, were also in attendance.
In a statement after the site visit, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction as regards the progress regarding the infrastructural works being undertaken at the temple. He recalled that these are being carried out following the decisions taken by the authorities during the taskforce meeting under his Chairmanship.
Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth indicated that the construction of the drainage system is nearing completion and the construction of the wall around the temple is being completed in phases due to limited financial budget.
Furthermore, he pointed out that another project in the pipeline for the next financial year consists of the construction of a road behind the temple.
Prime Minister Jugnauth recalled that there are concurrently other ongoing infrastructural enhancement projects across the country which are being monitored by regional taskforce, which he added, is a progress that will benefit the whole nation.
The aim, he emphasised, is to provide the necessary support to religious associations in the undertaking of their activities as Government values the significant contribution they are providing to the wellbeing of the community.
Besides, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth highlighted that Government shall provide its support to all religious communities, during key religious events. According to the Prime Minister, it is important that we continue to promote our religious and cultural beliefs and practices among the new generation.
Our country’s rich sociocultural beliefs and practices should be upheld and passed on to our youths, he underpinned.
