Mohamad Ally Oochotoya, a 54-year-old taxi driver from the Calebasses region, will be brought before the Pamplemousses court on Monday morning 31 July on a provisional charge of possession of an offensive weapon. He committed this offence at the Mahogany Mall in Beau Plan on Friday morning 28 July.
In his complaint, the 43-year-old security guard explained that he was on duty at the shopping centre at around 10.15am on Friday 28 July when the suspect approached him saying, “ki fer to pann tir larzan to pe vey mwa”. He said he didn’t pay him any attention. The man then followed him to the parking areas and threatened him with a spanner while swearing at him.
The security guard then headed inside the Mall, close to the Manjoo shop, when the man approached him from a distance of two metres, holding a knife in his right hand and threatening him with it. The security guard explained that he ran towards a corridor and the man chased him. A police officer stationed there intervened. He was taken to Pamplemousses police station and the knife was seized as evidence.
A young 20-year-old security guard witnessed the violence. After giving his statement, Ally Oochotoya was released on parole. However, he will have to appear before the Pamplemousses court on Monday morning 31 July on a provisional charge of possession of an offensive weapon.
