I have assumed my responsibility since the 2019 General Elections.” This was the first comments of Suren Dayal following the Privy Council’s decision to reject his appeal. However, he deplores the judicial system, which took four years to reach a verdict. Suren Dayal added that he believes in democracy. For him the voting system is something sacred.

The Leader of the Opposition is convinced that petitioner Suren Dayal has not been able to gather sufficient evidence to demonstrate that there were attempts to tamper with the 2019 legislative elections. Knowing a fact is one thing, but proving it in a court of law is quite another,” says Xavier Luc Duval. According to him, the entire population is aware of the alleged malpractices that took place during the election campaigns. The former Prime Minister commented the Privy Coucil judgment, rejecting the appeal of Suren Dayal. He said he respects the verdict but believes that it does not change his opinion and that of professionals on the conduct of election campaigns and the vote count in 2019.
He said he was convinced that the 2019 legislative elections were not “free and fair”. Dr Navin Ramgoolam also explained that they were unable to raise certain points to challenge the 2019 general election because the 21-day deadline was well past. He cites as an example the comments made by Soopramanien Kistnen, a former MSM agent, about the 2019 general election. He also saluted Suren Dayal for all his efforts.
