The Labour MP is challenging the National Assembly Clerk’s Office’s rejection of his parliamentary question through an application for judicial review. The case was called before the Senior Puisne Judge, Nirmala Devat this morning.
Patrick Assirvaden’s solicitor, Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrun, requested that the case be Set down for hearing. This will be communicated to them by circular.
On leaving the Supreme Court, Patrick Assirvaden indicated that he would press the issue once Parliament resumed in October.
As a reminder, last July Speaker Sooroojdev Phokeer refused a question from the Red MP which focused on the private lawyers whose services had been retained by the Police Commissioner. The question was directed at the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth.
