Metro Express has issued a press release to warn students traveling on the Metro Express that as of July 3, it will be mandatory to use the student card, namely the Student MECard. Students will have to “Tap On” before starting their journey and “Tap Off” at the end of their journey at stations.
The Student MECard is a personalized (prepaid) electronic card that keeps track of its stored monetary value. The MECard Student is for full-time students and allows them to travel on Metro Express trains, either free of charge or at the student fare.
All full-time students must have both a personalized student card (MECard) and a Student Identity Card (SIC)/Bus Pass to benefit from free travel between home and school/college on school days only.
Students can also benefit from a reduced fare (3/4) during school vacations for other journeys.
