In a shooting incident in St Louis’s school in Missouri, United States of America (USA) at least three people, along with the suspect, have died and seven people were injured.
The suspect entered Central Visual & Performing Arts High School just after 09:00 hours local time (13:00 GMT) on Monday. As the doors of the building were locked, it was not clear very early as to how the suspect entered the school.
According to witnesses, a lot of people were saved due to the fact that the gunman’s weapon stuck midway shooting. St Louis Public Schools said that the police “quickly stopped” the attacker. The police identified the suspect as a 19-year-old student of the school who fired upon the police and was killed in retaliatory firing. However, the motive behind the attack is still unclear.
Among the dead is a teenage girl who died inside the school, while a woman died in hospital, according to what police told local media. The media said that the seven injured, among whom were three girls and four boys, suffered from non-lethal injuries.
The students who attempted to escape the incident told the police that the gunman had a “long gun”. The city’s police commissioner Michael Sack said that seven security guards on the scene moved swiftly to alert other employees and call the police.
The shooter was discovered to be carrying about a dozen high-capacity magazines filled with hundreds of bullets. He added, “This could have been much worse. This is a heart-breaking day for all of us.” FBI agents are helping in the investigation.
