Hon Sooroojdev PHOKEER, G.C.S.K, G.O.S.K, Speaker of the National Assembly, participated in the G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20), India. The Summit spanned over two days (13th &14th October 2023), at the newly constructed India International Convention and Expo Center (IICC), Yashobhoomi, Dwarka. Hon Sooroojdev PHOKEER is accompanied by Ms Urmeelah Devi Ramchurn, Acting Clerk.
The official participation of the Hon Speaker in the G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) follows that of Prime Minister, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth at the G 20 Leaders’ Summit in India last month.
The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, officially proceeded to the opening of the Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P-20) on 13th October 2023.
The theme of the Summit – Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future – draws inspiration from the ancient Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam -The World is one Family.
The P-20 Summit comprised of four high-level sessions, i.e;
- Accelerating SDGs
- Sustainable Energy Transition
- Women-led Development
- Transformation in People’s Lives through Public Digital Platform
Hon Sooroojdev PHOKEER, G.C.S.K, G.O.S.K, spoke on the theme ‘Transformation in People’s Lives through Public Digital Platform’. In his presentation, the Speaker of the National Assembly underscored the pivotal role played by the Parliament, through the enactment of several pieces of critical legislation, to ensure a concrete foundation for digitalisation in Mauritius. He also stated that the true power digital of platforms lies not just in their technological prowess but also in their ability to transform lives, particularly when they are harnessed for public good.
