Laval France Michel Solamalay, 63, succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon of Monday 6 September in the intensive care unit of the neurological ward of the northern hospital where he had been admitted since Wednesday 25 August. The Baie du Tombeau resident was seriously injured in an accident at the Cocoterie, Roche-Bois roundabout. The Suzuki motorbike he was riding collided with a Honda Civic.
It was around 7pm on Wednesday 25 August when an accident occurred at the roundabout on Cocoterie Road, Roche-Bois. A motorbike and a car collided. France Solamalay was seriously injured. He was evacuated to the northern hospital. Since then, he has been admitted to the neurology ward of the intensive care unit.
He died at 1.30 pm on Tuesday 7 September. In the early evening his body was autopsied at the morgue of the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis, by Dr Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer. He attributed the man’s death to acute respiratory distress syndrome.
The driver of the car, a 24-year-old from Goodlands, was given a breath test which was negative. An investigation has been initiated at the Roche-Bois police station to shed light on the circumstances of this accident. This Wednesday morning, the driver will be brought before the Port Louis court on a provisional charge of manslaughter.
