The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Metropolitan Police’s Northern Division has been investigating since Tuesday February 06 to find the perpetrators of a theft from the home of a nurse in Bernardin de Saint Pierre, Vallée des Prêtres. Gold jewelry worth Rs 300,000, wrapped in an Indian dress commonly known as a “ghagra choli” and placed in a wardrobe, was stolen. The 52-year-old nurse says she suspects two women who worked as handymen in her home until August last year of being the perpetrators of the theft.
The 50-year-old went to the Abercrombie police station on St. Croix on the evening of Tuesday 06 February to lodge a complaint. She explained in great detail how she had stored the jewels, including four bracelets (batana), a chain (haar), three other bracelets and a finger chain called “taal”, in an Indian dress. The value of the jewelry is Rs 300,000. According to her, the jewelry was stolen between July and October 02 last year.
She told police that she could identify her jewelry. She said she suspected the two women who worked in her house as handywomen of being the perpetrators. One lives in Plaine Verte and the other in Vallée Pitot. They stopped working in August last year, for no reason whatsoever. They had taken jobs at her home in January and August 2023 respectively.
