Tragic end for 65 year old Deoranee Ponny, also known as Meeta, on Saturday afternoon, October 30. This resident of Moka was cleaning her house with a pressure washer when she fell from the second floor roof of her house. Seriously injured, she was rushed to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis where she was pronounced dead. The autopsy performed at the morgue of the same hospital in the early evening of the same day attributed her death to heart attack.
On the sidelines of the Divali festival, Deoranee Ponny was doing a big cleaning at her home. On Saturday, October 30, she was on the roof of the house on the second floor with a high pressure cleaner, together with her 19 year old nephew. Shortly after 1 p.m. her thirsty nephew came down to get a drink of water. When he returned he found his aunt cleaning the edge of the house. At one point his aunt lost her balance and fell to the ground.
She suffered a head injury and was rushed to Dr. Jeetoo Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Dr. Ananda Sunnassee, Police Medical Officer who performed the autopsy on the body at around 7pm on Saturday, October 30, attributed the cause of death of the woman to a heart attack.
The funeral of Deoranee Ponny took place on Sunday, October 31. She was cremated at the crematorium of Circumstance, St-Pierre. An investigation has been initiated at the police station of Moka to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
