ACP Gungadin held a press conference yesterday morning on various cases where drivers were book on fixed penalty notice and where the DPP’s office opted for a no-further action. He announced that 2 members of the staff of the DPP’s office are directly concerned. They were booked themselves and wrote to the DPP. Later the office decided that they should be no further action in these two cases.
ACP Gungadin announced that these two cases were referred to Icac. He also spoke about various other cases where drivers, not working for the DPP’s office, have been booked since July 2022 and wrote to the DPP. They put forward various reasons justifying the fact they were speeding. He said that these reasons do not stand. Police enquired over these cases and found that these reasons were false. “How can the DPP’s office decide a ‘no further action’ without any inquiry?” he said.
ACP Gungadin said that there were 3 arrest and provisional charges have been lodged.
