Serge Lebrasse Dies of Pneumonia at 92!

Must Read

Serge Lebrasse will no longer sway to sega music. The segatier died on Thursday 6 April at the age of 92. This local music legend leaves behind 6 children, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a rich musical heritage.

He passed away in the early hours of this morning at his home in Plaisance – Rose-Hill. He had been in a coma for two days with pneumonia: “The weight of age had weakened him a lot recently. However, his health was not at its worst. But his situation deteriorated quickly when he got pneumonia, which developed rapidly and put him in a coma. That’s when the family realised that unfortunately he wasn’t going to recover,” says Toto – one of the singer’s sons.

This death is even harder for Serge’s wife Gisèle: “My mother and father lived together for 66 years. They were inseparable and my mother was also his manager in a way,” adds Toto.

From Serge Lebrasse’s career, Toto remembers that he was above all a great patriot: “My father loved his country very much. His repertoire can attest to that. For me, he was one of the best ambassadors of Mauritius abroad. He did a lot to promote his country internationally.

To honour Serge’s memory and salute his immense contribution to local music, the family is planning several projects: “It’s a bit premature to talk about it now, but there are projects that we intend to carry out to honour my father’s career. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those fans and media who have always supported him during his career. He always asked us to thank these people on the day he passed away. “

As a reminder, Serge Lebrasse’s remains will be on display this Thursday, April 6 at the Elie & Sons chapel in Beau-Bassin from 11am to 11pm. The funeral procession will leave the chapelle ardente the following day, Friday 7 April at 11am, to go to the singer’s home in Plaisance. The funeral procession will then proceed to the church of Ste Anne with music, where a ceremony will take place at 1pm. Serge Lebrasse will be laid to rest in the St. Jean – Quatre Bornes cemetery.
