To mark the first anniversary of the death of Sir Anerood Jugnauth (SAJ), who passed away on 3 June 2021, the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage yesterday inaugurated a Samadhi and a memorial at the Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens.
Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, Sarojini Jugnauth, Kobita Jugnuath and other dignitaries were present for the ceremony. On his Facebook page, the PM wrote: « Sir Anerood Jugnauth fine transforme nou pays. Le monde ine change so regard lor Maurice et fine réalisé ki nou pays ki ena ene grand destin. Inauguration Samadhi ek dévoilement ene monument à la mémoire de SAJ dan SSR Botanical Garden vine fer justice à so contribution historique dan l’évolution nou pays. »
The ceremony was followed by the unveiling of a bronze portrait of Sir Anerood Jugnauth and the opening of a temporary exhibition dedicated to the former Prime Minister at château de Mon Plaisir.
The exhibition will include panels, videos and features tracing SAJ’s life from his childhood to his rise as a statesman. The exhibition opened on 06 June and will be open to the public from 07 to 26 June.
