The Court of Assizes has sentenced Salib Meerhossen to undergo a life sentence. Meerhossen, 56-year-old was found guilty of murdering 34-year-old South African Lara Rijs in August 2017. Meerhossen was the security guard of the residential complex where Rijs lived until her body was found by two colleagues.
The DNA of the accused has been found on the bed, bedsheet and even on the body of the victim.
According to the police enquiry, Meerhossen raped the South African lady before cutting her throat.
This security guard had murdered the South African Lara Bianca Rijs in 2017. The knife fell this evening in the court of assizes before judge Luchmyparsad Aujayeb. The body of the victim had been found in a villa in Pereybere in the evening of 13 to 14 August 2017 and according to the autopsy report she had been sexually assaulted before being killed with a sharp weapon.
This Tuesday, judge Luchmyparsad Aujayeb, who presides over the trial, began his “summing-up” to the jury. This summary of the facts and the testimonies collected during the trial started at 5 pm and ended at about 6:15 pm. The jurors then retired to deliberate. The members of the jury unanimously pronounced a guilty verdict against Salib Meerhossen this Tuesday, September 14.
