Ashok Jugmohun, 53, is the ninth victim of a road accident since the beginning of this year. The resident of cité Paul Toureau, Sainte Croix, has been in critical condition since his accident on the morning of Wednesday January 3 on route des Pamplemousses, Sainte Croix. He had been hit head-on by a motorcycle while crossing the road. After undergoing surgery, he was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis. The 50-year-old succumbed to his injuries at 12.15pm on Friday January 19.
The accident occurred near SMS Pariaz at around 8.55 a.m. on Wednesday January 3, on the route de Pamplemousses, Sainte Croix. In his statement, the 20-year-old driver of a Suzuki motorcycle, a Nestlé helper, explained the circumstances of the accident. Coming from the direction of Route Militaire, he headed towards Sainte Croix. His passenger was his 22-year-old friend from Sophia lane, Vallée des Prêtres. At one point, an individual suddenly crossed the road in front of his two-wheeled machine.
In a statement made at the Abercrombie police station in Sainte Croix, a 20-year-old helper from Nestlé who lives in Plaine Verte explained the circumstances of the accident while riding his Suzuki motorcycle. He was riding his motorcycle on the route de Pamplemousses, Sainte Croix coming from the route Militaire. His passenger was a 22-year-old from Sophia Lane, Vallée des Prêtres. He lost his balance and collided with the pedestrian. He and his friend ended up on the asphalt.
Ashok Jugmohun was taken to hospital in an ambulance belonging to the Emergency Medical Service. After his death on Friday afternoon, January 19, his body was transferred to the morgue for an autopsy. The autopsy, carried out by Dr Dhondea, Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to a craniocerebral injury.
