Rs 17.3 Million Of Drugs Seized At Cite Bois Marchand, Terre Rouge

Months of surveillance carried out on 60-year-old Regis Lorenzo Jean by elements of the Special Cell of the Special Supporting Unit (SSU) bore fruit this Tuesday morning, November 28. A raid on the home of this man, who is known to the police, in Cité Bois Marchand, Terre Rouge, led to the discovery of heroin and hashish with a street value of Rs 17.3 million. A sum of Rs 22,000 in various currencies and 5 and 10 euros, suspected to be the proceeds of drug sales, were also seized.

The raid by the SSU’s Special Cell was meticulously prepared before the assault on Lorenzo Jean’s home before daybreak. The suspect, who was taken by surprise, had no time to react. The seized drugs were taken to the headquarters of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu), where they were placed in a safe.

During the raid, police also seized three rolls of ten black adhesive strips each, a pair of scissors, a cell phone and an electronic scale. Lorenza Jean will be handed over to the Adsu police, who will take over the investigation.

This Tuesday morning, November 28, Lorenzo Jean will be brought before the Pamplemousses court. He is facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking. The police intend to object to his release on parole.

In addition, on the afternoon of Monday November 27, the men of sergeant Aza of Adsu la Flacq arrested Avinash Buleeram, a 36-year-old former policeman. This after he was found in possession of a large quantity of cannabis which was spread out on the ground to be dried, and on his person a newspaper containing a quantity of the same drug.

It was on the basis of certain information that, at around 2.25pm on Monday November 27, this Adsu team went to Camp Bombay, Sebastopol, on the bank of a river at the back of the recreation center, that Avinash Buleeram was arrested with this drug. Its market value is in excess of Rs 1 million. His home was searched, but no drugs were found. The suspect was placed in a cell at Quartier Militaire police station. He was brought before the Flacq court on Tuesday morning, November 28.

Avinash Buleeram was discharged from the police force in March this year. He had been banned from duty in 2017 after being implicated in a drug trafficking case. He was arrested by Adsu de Flacq. This former police officer, who joined the force on June 1, 2011, had been assigned to the Moka police station and the Moka detention center while on duty.
