Rotary Club Of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill Donates Drug Analyser To The Government

A drug analyser, to the tune of some Rs 4 million, donated by the Rotary Club of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill to the Government, was handed over, this afternoon, to the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building, in Port Louis.

The President of the Rotary Club of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill, Mr Arvin Authelsingh, along with other representatives; the Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Anil Kumar Dip; and other eminent personalities, were present on the occasion.

In a statement, Prime Minister Jugnauth expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill for the donation of the equipment. He added that in line with its mission, the Rotary Club of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill is contributing to the efforts of Government by helping other organisations to foster a better society so that the country prospers and progresses.

The Prime Minister reiterated Government’s determination to fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the country adding that the modern equipment will help the Government and the concerned authorities in this fight. He further emphasised that the modern and transportable drug analyser will enable the testing and detection of illicit drugs, including synthetic drugs.

As for Mr Arvin Authelsingh, he underlined that the Rotary Club of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill is engaged in the fight against drugs. He said that the institution has elaborated several projects and is keen to back up Governmental efforts.

The drug analyser will be able to check for up to 21 drugs, and alcohol, in one sample of blood, urine or oral fluid. With minimal sample preparation required, qualitative results can be provided in under 20 minutes, offering an efficient and accurate toxicology screen. The drug analyser also facilitates on-site simultaneous screening of multiple drug classes, including classical, prescription and synthetic drugs of abuse.
